Research and Budget Analyst Internship Program

The Ohio Office of Budget and Management (OBM) is the fiscal backbone of the State of Ohio enterprise. OBM works with the Governor and every state agency in providing policy analysis, fiscal research, and financial management services. The Ohio Office of Budget and Management (OBM) is currently seeking candidates for our Summer (May-August) 2025 Internship Program. Graduate and undergraduate students focused on Public Finance, Public Administration, or Economics – this is the opportunity you have been waiting for!

What you’ll do:

OBM Interns will have a unique opportunity to gain hands on experience in a state budget office. Working primarily with the Research and Performance team, you will monitor, and track Ohio’s economy using traditional and real-time indicators, assist in the preparation of federal reports, and expand your Excel skills by conducting analyses and creating data visualizations that demonstrate the results of Ohio’s investments. Collaboration within OBM’s Budget, Grants Partnership and/or Capital Markets sections may be available based on the interests of each intern. OBM interns will interact with senior leaders from across the agency, learning about agency functions, including the Controlling Board/Legislation, State Accounting, Legal, and internal Fiscal Operations. 

Interns will work between 16-24 hours per week in our downtown Columbus office. If selected, the primary workdays will be Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and/or Thursdays; we can work with your schedule.

Qualifications:

  • Interns must have strong oral and written communication skills
  • Experience in Excel and be excited to learn. 
  • Be an undergraduate and/or graduate student working towards a degree in Public Finance, Public Administration, Economics, Business or related field. 
  • Be enrolled in an accredited graduate or undergraduate institution either during the Summer 2025 or Fall 2025 term.
