Summer Internship – Mental Health Media, Podcasting, and Integrative Psychiatry (NYC / Hybrid)

Dr. Dirk Winter, adult and child psychiatrist, Columbia faculty member, and host of the Developing Meaning podcast, is seeking a thoughtful, creative, and intellectually curious summer intern to help support a growing integrative psychiatry, podcasting, and community-building project.

This internship is ideal for students interested in:

  • psychiatry
  • psychology
  • social work
  • counseling
  • narrative medicine
  • podcasting and storytelling
  • integrative mental health
  • community building and healing

The primary focus of the internship will be helping grow and organize the Developing Meaning podcast and surrounding online community, while also contributing to a growing integrative psychiatry practice.

Current projects include:

  • Improving and organizing the Developing Meaning website and podcast landing pages
  • Creating searchable episode archives with descriptions and images
  • Uploading and organizing backlog podcast episodes onto YouTube
  • Helping build the podcast’s Substack and email community
  • Researching and helping plan future podcast episodes and guests
  • Assisting with writing, editing, transcripts, and educational content
  • Helping optimize the practice website and online presence
  • Assisting with anonymized clinical reflections and case-based educational writing projects

Depending on interest and fit, the role may gradually expand into additional areas such as:

  • retreat and workshop support
  • group therapy and healing community projects
  • exposure to integrative psychiatry and ketamine-assisted psychotherapy models
  • research and operational support within a growing practice

Ideal candidates are:

  • strong writers and communicators
  • curious about psychology, healing, meaning, and consciousness
  • organized and self-directed
  • comfortable learning new digital tools and platforms
  • emotionally mature, thoughtful, and collaborative
  • excited by interdisciplinary and evolving projects

This internship is initially exploratory and lightly structured, but there may be opportunities for expanded paid responsibilities over time depending on fit, initiative, and project development. For contributors who become deeply involved and effective, there may eventually be opportunities for ongoing paid work during the academic year.

Applicants are encouraged to listen to one or two episodes of the Developing Meaning podcast prior to interviewing. We are interested not only in technical skills, but also in intellectual curiosity, reflection, and thoughtful engagement with ideas around healing, meaning, and mental health.

NYC-based students are preferred, though some remote/hybrid work is possible.
