Undergraduate Public Health Nutrition Intern

This internship position is in the DC Department of Health, Community Health Administration (CHA), Disease Prevention and Health Promotion Bureau. CHA promotes healthy behaviors and environments to improve health outcomes and reduces disparities in the leading causes of mortality and morbidity in the District. CHA focuses on population health strategies to prevent and control cancer, chronic disease, and vaccine-preventable diseases; promote nutrition and physical fitness; ensure access to quality health care services; and support the health and well­being of families across the lifespan. CHA's approach targets behavioral, clinical, and social determinants of health through evidence-based programs, policy, and systems change. This bureau administers multiple federal and local healthy food access initiatives and programs, including WIC, Farmers' Market Nutrition Program, SNAP-Ed, and more. 

MAJOR JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES
As a Public Health Nutrition Intern, your responsibilities may include: 
 

  • Assisting in the implementation and evaluation of nutrition and health promotion programs.
  • Supporting community outreach initiatives to educate and engage residents in health-focused activities.
  • Contributing to the development of program materials, including educational resources and reports.
  • Collaborating with the team on policy development and program improvement strategies.
  • Conducting research and data analysis to support evidence-based decision-making.
  • Participating in cross-team meetings and contributing to discussions on public health strategies.

Work Environment: 
This internship is based on a hybrid model, with a mix of remote work and in-office work at 2201 Shannon Pl SE, Washington, DC 20001. The work environment is supportive, with flexibility in the work schedule to accommodate academic commitments. 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION: 
 

  • Current enrollment in an accredited graduate program in public health, dietetics, nutrition, or a related field
  • Interest in public health nutrition, chronic disease prevention, and health equity.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and analytical abilities.
  • Basic knowledge of public health concepts and nutrition frameworks preferred.
     

Compensation and Schedule:

  • Duration: 10-12 weeks
  • Schedule: Up to 40 hours per week for the summer
  • Compensation: Hourly rate based on education level and experience
