Criminal Intelligence Analyst

JOB DUTIES:

Collect and catalog law enforcement intelligence information. Receive or gather intelligence reports and data in support of criminal law enforcement investigations. Utilize local, state, and national information systems and databases as appropriate. Evaluate all available intelligence information pertaining to law enforcement, such as locations and suspects, and compare it accordingly to other criminal law enforcement investigations. Develop threat assessments and provide real-time criminal intelligence information in ongoing criminal investigations. Research, analyze, and interpret data from suspect cell phones, computers, gaming systems, social media, vehicle information, and GPS etc.

Produce written strategic, operational, and tactical intelligence products. Provide oral briefings to supervisors, detectives, and agents. Use software to analyze and review criminal cases. 

Compile and prepare detailed investigative reports and maintain related records in accordance with federal regulations. Compile and prepare detailed presentations for Major Case reviews. 

Analyze data, including published documents from sources such as the county auditor, recorder, secretary of state, and county court records. Develop detailed charts and timelines to illustrate relationships and link analysis. Review files and new information to ensure continuity of information and develop cross-references.

Utilize social media accounts for monitoring and assessing the development of threats to the public and/or law enforcement personnel, violence, criminal activity, and gang-related activities.

May assist in the drafting of legal process documentation such as search warrants, court orders, and subpoenas; makes electronic requests for data.  May observe interviews of suspect(s), victim(s) and/or witness(es).

Attend meetings with appropriate bureau, division, and other law enforcement agency personnel as needed.

Other duties as assigned.

MAJOR WORK CHARACTERISTICS:

Knowledge of research and analytical procedures and principles, statistics, and criminal law. Ability to speak and write clearly and convey information appropriately. Ability to work independently. Ability to organize data obtained from various sources into a comprehensible document. Ability to perform research using a computer, the internet, and personal computing devices. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with local, state, and federal law enforcement personnel. Ability to apply critical thinking in the preparation of detailed crime analyst reports.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR EMPLOYMENT:

  • Currently a Junior or Senior pursuing a bachelor’s degree in an applicable program such as Criminal Justice, Criminology, Sociology, or a related field.
  • Ability to become LEADS certified.

Additional Requirements:

  • Add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
