NYU Furman Center Undergraduate Summer Fellow
The NYU Furman Center, a leading academic research center jointly housed at NYU’s School of Law and Wagner Graduate School of Public Service, invites applications for its Summer Undergraduate Fellowship. This newly created fellowship is a unique opportunity for one or two undergraduate students to engage in academic research and policy analysis related to housing, land use, and real estate development.
About the Role:
Undergraduate Fellows will collaborate with the NYU Furman Center’s interdisciplinary team, including full-time staff, affiliated faculty, doctoral students, post-doctoral and legal fellows, and master’s students. Projects will span academic research and policy analysis, including tasks such as:
● Conducting historical research, literature reviews, and policy scans.
● Collecting and analyzing data.
● Drafting and editing policy papers, briefs, and presentations.
● Attending policy and research seminars hosted by the Furman Center and across NYU.
Fellows with an interest in data analysis and visualization may also have opportunities to assist in this area.
Performance will be evaluated through weekly formal check-ins with the Junior Research and Policy Fellow.
Qualifications:
● Undergraduate students entering their sophomore, junior, or senior year in Fall 2026 (classes of 2027, 2028, and 2029) are eligible.
● Students from all universities, majors, and backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
● Strong research and writing skills are required, along with an interest in national or local housing policy.
Applicants can come from a range of backgrounds and majors, and they can have varied experience; this position is meant to deepen research skills in a full-time university setting. For candidates with a demonstrated interest in working with data, additional opportunities may be available. If data work interests you, please specify your experience with MS Excel, Adobe Creative Suite, GIS, HTML, statistical packages (SAS, Stata), and/or programming languages (R, SQL, Python). Experience with data is not a required qualification.
Compensation:
In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the hourly base salary range for this student employment position is $17.00 per hour for undergraduate students.
Hours and Duration:
● Summer 2026: 25-35 hours per week.
● For NYU students only, opportunities may also exist for work during subsequent academic years and school breaks.
